What is the importance of having a Dedicated IP address for your web hosting account?
A dedicated IP address gives your site its own identity on the web. This means that no other site will be using the same IP address as your site, and you site looks like it’s own server to external entities (think google’s crawler.)
With most shared hosting providers, you will be giving a shared IP address that is being shared by all the other hosting clients that reside on the same server. This could be hundreds of other sites all using the same address. When you share an IP address, you are sharing the your site’s identity with all the other sites.
In most cases, this won’t be a problem, but what happens if one of the other webmasters using the same IP address start using black hat techniques or starts spamming. Their site along with all the other sites that use that IP address could get blacklisted and/or be dropped from search engine rankings.
One day everything is working fine with your hosting account, then suddenly all your emails to msn or aol accounts start bouncing, or your site suddenly is de-listed with Google. All your hard work optimizing your site is now lost. Don’t let this happen to you, get a host that offers you a dedicated IP address.
